Who is Eligible?

The Florida Young Artists Orchestra currently is open to orchestral musicians ages 6 to 22.
Orchestra and seat assignments are based upon your musical abilities as reflected in your audition.

There are many benefits to becoming a dedicated member of the Florida Young Artists Orchestra. Here are just a few:

Musical Education and Development – FYAO members receive instruction in orchestral and symphonic performance from highly qualified teachers, who are themselves professional musicians. Throughout the year, our members develop and refine skills that would not be possible on their own.

Specialized Instruction – FYAO members receive special “sectional” coaching from professional musicians who specialize in a particular instrument or orchestral section such as strings, brass and/or woodwinds.

Rewarding and Fun – The FYAO provides an outlet for musical performance that seeks to motivate and enrich all our young artists. While music education is the cornerstone of our program, the FYAO also provides fun and enjoyment for all members. There is nothing more rewarding than to demonstrate one’s musical talent and ability in an orchestral setting.

Performance – FYAO members typically perform up to four formal concerts throughout the season providing an opportunity for family, friends and the community to experience great music and to hear first-hand the tremendous talent of the FYAO.

Solo Performance – Each year, the FYAO holds its Concerto Competition providing the opportunity for ALL members to demonstrate their musical “chops” as a soloist. Judges evaluate each performance and winning members perform with the Symphony or Chamber Symphony Orchestra in the always exceptional Virtuoso Concert.

Community Involvement and Service – The FYAO performs frequently for members of the community and for special events. The FYAO also participates in fund raisng events for a variety of charities. Student participation in the not-for-profit FYAO can also provide the community service hours needed for Florida Bright Futures scholarships.

FYAO Tuition Scholarships – The FYAO offers a limited number of scholarships to qualifying members to cover all or part of the annual FYAO tuition cost.

Scholarship Funds – The FYAO, through the graciousness of others, has available a number of special scholarship for its members. Details are available through the Executive Director.

See the World – Every few years, the FYAO seeks to organize a group tour for FYAO members to visit far away places rich in classical music culture and history, including Austria and Italy, performing for appreciative audiences and visiting historic sites. In 2008, the FYAO traveled to New York and graced Carnegie Hall with a truly exceptional performance.
